The Society for Range Management was organized in the summer of 1947 after a 1946 meeting of interested parties, with Joseph F. Pechanec as its first president. The Society was officially formed at its first meeting on January 29-31, 1948, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Its mission was β€œto foster advancement in the science and art of grazing land management,” and it was established to provide an outlet and a venue for the dissemination and promotion of the principles of range management.
